On Monday, January 19, 2026, His Excellency Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, met with Mr. Brian Mast, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The meeting discussed U.S. relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region، the latest security developments in the region، as well as the process of reform and reorganization of the Peshmerga and the dangers posed by ISIS to the region.
The two sides agreed on the continuation of aid and joint cooperation with the Peshmerga to combat terrorism and its dangers، and hoped that the region would see more stability.
Developments in Syria and the surrounding countries، along with tensions in the Middle East، were another topic of discussion at the meeting.
