On Thursday, 11/9/2025, His Excellency Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Mr. Niccolò Fontana, Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, and an accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the region in general، the relations between Italy and the Kurdistan Region، the problems between Erbil and Baghdad and the upcoming elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
The two sides stressed the importance of continuing and expanding relations as well as promoting joint cooperation on the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad، stressing the continuation of dialogue and negotiations and resolving issues in accordance with the constitution.
In another part of the meeting، which was attended by Mr. Tommaso Sansoni، Consul General of Italy in the Kurdistan Region، the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the presentation of the latest efforts and steps of the process، as well as the assessment of the general situation in the region and the consequences of its events and developments، were the two other topics of discussion on which views were exchanged.
