On Monday, August 4, 2025, His Excellency Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Mr. Tommaso Sansoni, Consul General of Italy in the Kurdistan Region.
During the meeting، they discussed Italy's relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region، the process of reform and reorganization of the Peshmerga، the dangers of ISIS and extremist ideology in the region، and the continuation of training for the Peshmerga.
The two sides stressed the need to improve relations between Italy and Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in various fields، and exchanged views on the issues between Erbil and Baghdad، and considered it important to discuss and understand between the two sides on the basis of the Iraqi constitution in order to reach a radical solution to all outstanding issues between them.
The urgency of the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)، the expected process of the upcoming elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the latest developments in the Middle East were another topic of discussion.
