On Monday, 28 April 2025, His Excellency Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received His Excellency Colonel Peter Cooper, Military Commander of the German Allied Forces, and an accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed the latest security developments in the region، relations between Germany and the Kurdistan Region، military assistance and training to the Peshmerga، the process of reform and reorganization of the Peshmerga، the threats posed by Daesh to the region، the instability situation in the Middle East and its effects on Iraq.
The Vice President stressed the importance of the presence of the international coalition forces against Daesh in order to maintain the stability of the region، and emphasized the need to protect the coalition forces and diplomatic missions regarding the situation in Iraq and the region، as well as the discussions between the region and Iraq to solve the problems facing the political process and constitutional rights.
For their part، the visiting delegation reiterated the support of the German Coalition Forces for the continuation of assistance and joint cooperation with the Peshmerga to combat terrorism and the threats of Daesh، and hoped that the region would witness more stability، as they looked at the process of reform and reunification of the Peshmerga forces.
