On Thursday, Feb 20, Bafel Jalal Talabani, president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, received Daniel Rubenstein, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, and Steven Bittner, U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
During the meeting، the political، economic and security developments in the region were discussed and the need for cooperation between the parties and the neccesity to maintain stability were discussed.
Speaking about the steps taken to form the new Kurdistan Regional Government، President Bafel said: "We are committed to improving the situation of the Kurdistan Region، the lives of our people and building a strong government، and we are eager for a radical change in the governance of our country in accordance with the will and interest of the people."
Regarding the problems of Baghdad and Erbil، he stressed on the need to resolve the issues on the basis of the constitution and political understandings and agreements، heighlighting: "We must all take this situation responsibly into account and create more grounds for reaching a result that is in the interest of the people of our country."
