The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani received the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski in Slemani.
In the meeting، President Bafel Jalal Talabani referred to the situation of the Kurdistan Region after the elections and the formation of the new government and said that the PUK is taking steps towards the formation of a new government with a new strategy and does not want to repeat the experience of the previous autocratic government. "That is why we are trying to form a national government that is accountable to its citizens، a just government that does not discriminate between cities and serves everyone on the same level." PUK president pointed out.
President Bafel said that this new phase of the Kurdistan Region will not be replaced by autocracy and self-imposition، and that in the past، government institutions were used for partisan and personal interests، and that the government should no longer be a place that works only for the interests of a certain party، but this time the government belongs to the people and must be for the people as well.
Regarding the relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the conflicts in the region، the PUK President said: "We emphasize the commitment to the constitution and real partnership in the management of the country and the protection of the rights of all parties، as it is the duty of all parties to act responsibly in the face of the conflicts in the region and not to allow the country to become a battlefield and settle disputes."
